Christine Ekstrand MD

Orthopedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine Specialist

AOSSM - Advanced Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine - Dr. Christine Ekstrand

Dr. Christine Ekstrand is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist focused on shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle low invasive nonoperative and operative treatments. Non-operative treatments include regenerative medicine using the patient's own platelet rich plasma (PRP) or stem cells to obtain the building blocks for healing and re-injecting them to the affected area, as partial thickness tears of tendons or ligaments or degenerative joints.

Other non-operative treatments are exercise programs targeted to the injured area, orthotics for improved weight bearing alignment as well as anti-inflammatory injections using steroids or joint maintenance injections using hyluronic acid.

All injections are performed using ultrasound guidance to ensure that the treatment is delivered to the targeted tissue. Surgical treatments include mostly low-invasive arthroscopic surgery and open surgery as needed.

Dr. Ekstrand moved from her private practice as clinical faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) of over 20 years to Delray Beach to be the first female orthopedic sports medicine surgeon to practice at Delray Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center.
Dr. Ekstrand graduated from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center, served a general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center and Yeshiva University in New York City and completed her fellowship in surgical and non-surgical ORTHOPEDIC sports medicine at UCLA.

Having been a Division I student athlete on the NCAA championship tennis team at the University of Texas, Dr Ekstrand knows first hand what it means and what it takes to bring a high level athlete, weekend warrior or motivated patient to return to their desired activity level.
